With the new year upon us, it’s time to start thinking about our spring wardrobes. I was lucky enough to get a first look at what new trends will be cropping up in ‘09 when I attended New York Fashion Week this past Fall. While I loved a lot of what I saw, (i.e. tropical prints; bodysuits; voluminous, flowy, femenine sillhouettes) there were some trends I’ve still been trying to digest–namely, the return of the harem pant. Everyone from Michael Kors to Betsey Johnson to Diane Von Furstenberg showed this trend on the runway. Though I do like the sillhouette, my main concern is that this would be a tough look for a curvy woman to pull off. Much like the boyfriend jean, this look requires balance proportion for those of us who aren’t 6′1 billowy supermodels ;)
Curvy gals, if you dare try this trend, be sure to add heels and a fitted top, just so you won’t get lost in all that fabric!

Would You wear this trend? Keep checking back, as I’ll be posting more Spring ‘09 fashion trends and tips.

With the winter winds blowing in over the holidays, it cast a chill over sunny Florida. For a few days, I felt as though I were back in New York with the blustering winds. As a result of this experience, I figured I would share with you a tip I found on wearing winter coats.

To help you get started building that coat closet, I wanted to highlight an offer from QVC.com to help put you on the right path with your winter coats. Now through 1/4/09 (where did the year go?), you can get free shipping on designer coats like this wool & cashmere peacoat from Carson Kressley. If you aren’t familiar with Carson, he was on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy — he was one of the “fab five.”While this coat is available in a variety of colors, I prefer the pumpkin seen after the jump, as bright colors are in this year.

Carson Kressley Wool & Cashmere Peacoat in pumpkin. Available at QVC.com for $109.70 (retails for $145).

While winter coats may seem pricey, what is great about choosing the right winter coat is that it is an investment that will reward you many times over — and your wallet as well!

Actress, Leighton Meester plays everyone’s favorite bad girl, Blair Waldorf, on the CW hit series, Gossip Girl. The characters (particularly Blair) on the fashion-forward show, have been responsible for spawning several fashion trends, including the revival of the headband. Blair’s style is classic, preppy, tailored, and polished–very Upper Eastside New York–and you’ll rarely see her without her signature headwear. From grosgrain to sequins, Blair likes her headbands in an array of colors, textures, and styles, and accessorizes depending on her mood, or to add a punch of color to her outfit.

Where to shop for the Blair Waldorf look after the jump!

I did some browsing online, and found some really cute headbands at all price points.
Eugenia Kim silk headband $55 at Shopbop.com

These Petite Bow Headbands are available at Forever21.com for $1.50 each. Pick one up in every color to accessorize your outfits a la Blair Waldorf.

Embellished Headbands $3.80-$5.80 at Forever21.com

If you’re feeling frisky, try on a sequined or feathered headband with a formal dress for a touch of individuality. I could see Blair wearing any one of the headbands pictured above to a party with a gorgeous frock. Check back soon for more Gossip Girl inspired fashion tips!

I’m sure we are all tired of something in life… Whether it is that everyday job, commuting in traffic or even cooking. While we may be tired of some things, there are a lot worse things that we should all be tired of.

On this past year’s Dancing with the Stars, you may have seen celebrities like Lance Bass, Toni Braxton, Brooke Burke and Kim Kardashian sporting black and silver bracelets. They are the latest celebrities to get behind the “I’m Tired of…” bracelet campaign. Toni Braxton was tired of Alzeheimer’s, while Kim K. was tired of Cancer. The I’m Tired of… bracelets range from Alzeheimers to Cancer, there is also one for Aids, along with Global Warming too. Display what it is that you are ‘tired of.’ With each donation of $10, half of it goes to support the cause that you select.

While a donation of $10 isn’t enough to cure these problems entirely, it is a start! Tell me what you are tired of in the comments area.

Why not channel your inner royalty this New Year’s? My suggestion– wear a regal blue and gold print. Not only will you make a showstopping entrance; you’ll also rule the party with your sassy fashion sense, wit, and charm. They’ll never know you scored such a “Hot Deal” on such a rich look.

Save big (and look like you didn’t) by shopping coldwatercreek.com. Right now, they’re offering 50% off their entire website. Just use the coupon code WXH6440 at checkout. I found this unique blue-violet and gold printed wrap dress for only $75!

While you’re at it; give your tootsies the royal treatment too. These luxurious silk shantung peep-toe slings are also available at Coldwater Creek for half-price–a mere $35.

If Santa was good to you this year, you must have earned the right to splurge ;)
Head on over to couturecandy.com and check out this gorgeous gold jaquard paperbag waist skirt.

Gold Jaquard Paperbag Waist Skirt $176 at CoutureCandy.com

The fabric is too beautiful to pass up, and the design is perfect for a fitted top (I’m thinking a dramatic neckline, like the cotton ruffle shirt by J.Crew pictured below.) Use coupon code 25DAY at checkout to snag the skirt for around $176.

Ruffle shirt $89.50 at J.Crew.com

What surprises will 2009 hold for you? If your resolution is to step up your style, now is your chance to make a fresh start. Own the night like you’ve always wanted, and–who knows–with your new fashion outlook, may come a new lease on life. Dress for success in 2009!

Much love,

Wow! 2008 is almost over, and 2009 is just a few days away! With all the hustle and bustle of this holiday season, I haven’t even taken the time to plan my New Year’s Eve look. Hmm…what to wear? I want to sparkle and shine (Hey, it’s New Years; what better time?!) Should I go all out? Totally sequined? Or rock out in a fierce pair of heels, statement earrings, and a shiny clutch? Decisions, Decisions…

Herve Leger dresses

Herve Leger sequin banded dress $2800 at Net-A-Porter

I’m in love with the “it” party dresses of the season– Herve Leger’s sparkly, body-hugging creations. The sequined bandage dress (featured above) does incredible things for the female form–tucking, streamlining and lifting in all the right places ;) The beautiful thing about the dress is that accessories are no longer needed as it pretty much does the job alone; but for a frugal girl who loves her accessories, there are other options. The luxury of Herve Leger after all, does come with a hefty price tag!

Check out a similar look (for a lot less) here.

The dress pictured above is a similar sillhouette to the Herve Leger, in this season’s hottest hue. Get it for $98 at Cache.com. Shop HSN.com for the earrings ($39), Amrita Singh for the cocktail ring ($50), and topshop.com for the sequined clutch.

The crystal-encrusted shoes featured above are part of Bebe’s Holiday 2008 collection. They’re sold-out on Bebe’s website, but if you hurry; you can still snag them without leaving the comfort of your couch. They’re available on eBay for around $169 to help you ring in the new year in style, search keyword “bebe purple studded strappy crystal sandal shoe” on eBay.

Here’s to getting a head start on a fabulous new year!
