Fashion Tip – Step It Up

January 23rd // Comment Here

New year, new you! Give your work wardrobe a fresh start this year. Whether you are getting ready for a job interview or you just want to add some new pieces to your wardrobe, it is essential to start off on the right foot.

Start with the basic pieces, a new suit that fits you well and flatters your figure is a great start. Wearing printed blouses or bold colorful tops under your jacket will make it look fresh and on trend.

You can also wear the pieces separately. The blazer can be worn with dark wash denim trousers and a crisp button down for a casual but still work appropriate look.
The pants or pencil skirt from your suit can be worn with a delicate feminine blouse and a long cardigan for a soft lady like look.

Check out these great ideas to help you step it up at work after the jump!

Trends and News – To Shave or Not To Shave

January 23rd // 4 Comments

Today’s post is due, in part, to an e-mail that I received from a MyFashionCents.com reader. She wanted to know how to get her husband to trim his ‘stache,’ so that he didn’t look so goofy wearing it. One thing is for certain, wearing a mustache takes a talented individual, one that isn’t afraid to try out a little facial hair every now and then.
At the 66th annual Golden Globes, there was a surprising trend that nearly every attendee seemed to be sporting — the mustache. From Sting to Darren Aronofsky (Director of The Wrestler), even Mickey Rourke, everyone seemed to be sporting some form of facial hair.

Based on these variations, I wanted to share with you a few tips on selecting the right ‘stache’ to fit your facial type. That way you won’t be relegated to jokes about that ‘dirt’ on your upper-lip. Instead, you’ll bask in the limelight, like many of today’s celebrities!

Read a ‘stache of tips’ on wearing facial hair after the jump.

    Mustache Styles

  • Handlebar mustache: great for thin faces or someone with small facial features. Also seen on bikers. To make it look right, make sure to shave on the chin and in the lower cheek region. Finish off with a little clubman mustache wax!
  • Fu Manchu: Great for rounder faces. This is a thin mustache and is pretty easy to grow. Simply start a mustache and add two bars on either side of the mouth. It may require some training to grow straight. With a little luck, you’ll be sporting this look in no time!
  • Horseshoe: give off a rough and tough appearance. Often confused with the Fu Manchu, you might want to steer clear of this upside down look, as it is supposed to be bad luck.

The key point to achieving any of these mustache styles is to keep them well groomed. This is important to remember, because like a person in need of a haircut, the mustache can grow out of control if not trimmed and maintained.

Ladies, what do you think about a man with some facial hair? Love it or lost it?

Lots of love,
Loren

Life with Loren – Obama Means Change

January 22nd // 4 Comments

This past weekend has been nothing short of remarkable. With Barack Obama becoming the 44th President of the United States, we can expect to see some much needed changes in our country over the next four years.

With so many celebrities in town, one would have thought that the Oscars or Golden Globes were taking place. Instead, we spent the weekend with Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, marveling at what Barack Obama has accomplished up until this point. My good friends, Shakira along with Alejandro Sanz and Raquel Pereda joined us as well to help celebrate Obama’s inauguration.

What a thrilling weekend it was, where everyone seemed to just get along — despite the nearly two million people being in DC.

Yes, it was cold, but it was well worth it to see such wonderful performers put on exceptional performances, not to mention, give speeches about change and diversity and how you need to feel comfortable with who you are.

Did you brave the freezing cold to see Barack Obama become the 44th President of the United States? I want to hear from you and your experience!

Much love,
Loren

Life with Loren – Hudson River Landing

January 21st // 1 Comment

I’m sure many of you saw the spectacular landing made by pilot Chelsey B. “Sully” Sullenberger. Miraculously, he was able to land the plane in the Hudson river, without causing injury to the 150 passengers onboard.

JR and I experienced this remarkable event firsthand, as we saw the plane come in and hit the water. We even had friends on the flight, who luckily survived.

“Sully” as he is nicknamed, should be commended for his bravery. Click here to view Sully’s impressive resume.
