There’s no getting around the fact that self tanning is messy, no matter what your preferred method of application might be: spray, tinted lotion, or gel. But follow these five tricks and I guarantee you’ll have a streak free, even tan with minimal hassle.
- Opt for a shade that’s actually lighter than the tan you want, but apply it twice—once in the morning and again at night. Dark shades are more likely to streak.
- There is no such thing as over moisturizing before applying self tanner. Any tanning veteran knows this, and yet most people still end up missing a spot. Get between your toes, your knees, your ankles…everywhere! Start from your feet and work your way up. You end up having to move your body less, and thus are less likely to cause streaks.
- Let the tanner sink in for at least half an hour before even attempting to sit down. For the maximum effect, do not wash off for 9-12 hours.
- Wear loose-fitting, cotton clothes while you have the tanner on. Your skin won’t react to the fabric, but most importantly you’ll be able to wash off the product (and the smell!) it will inevitably absorb.
Happy tanning!
