What to Buy Now (from New York Fashion Week)

I’m absolutely positive that come Paris Fashion Week (which is March 2nd-10th) this list will have tripled, but after looking back through all the NYC Fall 2010 shows there are three must-own items topping my wish list right now: Wide-leg trousers, mid-calf dresses, and a wool cape (sans super powers, sadly). The inspirations behind my obsessions are below—but wish me luck, I’m starting to hunt for them online now.

Notes from the Tents, London – Heart Attack

London is feeling the love—or at least its symbol: the heart. They were popping up all over the place this weekend. Clements Ribeiro decked out a simple gray cardigan with splashy sequin appliqués, Vivienne Westwood devised a pretty ingenious cumberbund heart belt for her Red Label, and the Miller sisters (Sienna and Savannah) finished off every single one of their looks for Twenty8Twelve with a huge, honking metal heart necklace. I’ve always considered hearts to be a little country, but these don’t feel that way at all. What do you think?

Notes from the Tents, London – Knot Loosely and Go

I’m a huge fan of the belted jacket trend. But… I have to point out that sometimes it’s not the most functional styling trick to pull off, like say when you have to use the ladies room and said jacket doesn’t have belt loops! Which is why the second I saw these knotted leather belts at Aquascutum I fell in love. How perfectly simple: Just wrap, tie, and go. No annoying buckle adjustments necessary. Love it!
