If you have young children, you may have already heard about Sesame Street’s “I Love My Hair”, an amazing song geared toward building the self-esteem of African-American girls who may have developed insecurities about the color or texture of their locks. The video is getting a lot of media attention and is quickly becoming an anthem for little ones all over the country.

Check out the adorable puppet singing a love song to her hair:

I think any child (of any race) can learn something from this song. It’s important that girls learn to love what they have – straight hair, curly hair, etc. What are your thoughts on this video?

  2. Roni Garcia says:

I think it’s a great beginning…..each girl needs to be taught that every girl is beautiful….and unique. Not just hair…but eyes, nose, mouth, and most of all the person inside…her heart! When I speak to groups of girls…I talk about looking for the good in each person…why tear down? What good comes from that? Yes…start young…and maybe all these young girls will grow up to make a difference in this world. As Motives girls…we can make a difference too…with all the girls and women we meet…let’s make a point to find the beauty in each other and share that! Very cute video!
