Milan and Paris just wrapped their men’s shows for Fall 2010, and if there was one overarching statement it was this: Dear ladies, we are tired of you stealing our clothes. We’re taking yours. Thank you.
Rick Owens featured a liquid gold sleeveless top that, quit frankly, would look fantastic with the new pencil skirt I just bought; Burberry had a parade of chic fur peacoats; and John Galliano introduced something that looked like the male version of Spanx (shall we call them Manx?).
I get the instinct to take a little something from the people that have stolen so much from you over the last few years, but I’m not seeing the womenswear-on-men trend taking off anytime soon. Or, at least I hope it doesn’t?
Love,
Loren

I completely agree, ladies — women’s clothing on men just does not look good. However, what we think of as women’s clothing today cut for men on men is prevalent throughout history, and some of it is even pretty good:
1) Britches – 1700′s Pantyhose for Men: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7XLvQTao2k8/SZOXsXaoOfI/AAAAAAAAGRs/4VFJCr8viVA/s320/costume+preview.JPG.
2) The Dress Coat (on right):

4) And, of course, modern-day boyfriend-girlfriend sweaters and cardigans:

Now, if someone did a revival of that dress coat, I would be all over that
! What do you think?
