Crystal Renn Appears in New Chanel and Jean Paul Gaultier Ads

Shown below are two new ads featuring the gorgeous plus-size model, Crystal Renn. Does anyone else find it strange that her entire figure is included in the Jean Paul Gaultier fall campaign, however, only her face is used in the Chanel photo?

(FYI – Chanel hired her for the reopening of their Soho store – not to model their fall line)

What’s your take on plus-size models? Crystal is only a size 10!

Love,

Loren

I’m with Linda!!! I’ll be celebrating big time when I get back to a size 10! “Plus size” indeed…
I don’t consider 14 a “Plus” size! Lots of women of a perfectly reasonable size wear 14 or 16. Some of us wouldn’t mind losing a few pounds, but are in no way obese. I don’t think most people would have considered Marilyn Monroe “plus size” :-)
I think it’s time for the fashion world to design clothes and to use models that come closer to what real women look like.

Sadly, it won’t be in my lifetime that the design world gets the message that REAL women are not size 0… nor are they a “plus” size at size 10!! I’m 51 yrs old and a proud size 16. I’m so tired of seeing beautiful clothes in tiny sizes, then walk into a store that carries the more “mature sizes” [as I like to call them] only to find nothing but tents and baggies pants!!! Excuse me? Just because we don’t fit the industry’s warped standard doesn’t mean we don’t deserves the exact same styles in our sizes!! C’mon, designers, wake up!! You are missing out on a HUGE target of shoppers.

As for Chanel only using her face? Typical and disheartening. Maybe someday….

P.S. Am I the only one that doesn’t see any difference in the bodies of the 3 in the Gaultier ad?? How is she defined as a “plus” model in the first place?? tsk tsk

Honestly, I don’t view a size 10 as a “plus” size. I know that’s what the fashion world coins it, but to the “average” woman, size 14 and up is a TRUE plus size. You can even buy “misses” up to a size 16 sometimes with some merchants. I think it’s ridiculous that a lot of designers or brands won’t hire certain sizes of women, but it is what it is. There are many others who will. :-)
