Powder Eye Shadow vs. Cream: How to Apply

A big debate amongst beauty professionals is which works better – powder eye shadow vs. cream. I tend to lean towards the pressed eye shadows we created for Motives because there are dozens of different shades, but that’s not to say there isn’t a place for cream shadows; you can even wear them both together for a dramatic look. Check out my quick tutorial below for a step-by-step guide on how to apply powder eye shadow vs. cream so you can decide which works best for you!

Powder Eye Shadow vs. Cream: How to Apply

powder-vs-creme-eyesPowder Eye Shadow: To reduce the fallout associated with powder eye shadow, apply with a patting motion using the Motives Eye Blender Brush before blending. Use one color on the lid for a neutral look or add a deeper shade in the crease for more definition. Motives’ powder shadows are crease-proof and deflect light away from fine lines to help visibly reduce the signs of aging for a bright, polished look.

Cream Eye Shadow: Motives Crème Shadow is best applied using our Motives Concealer Brush or Motives Detailing Brush. It can even be used as an eye base to moisturize and prepare the eyelid for the application of pressed eye shadow. There is no right or wrong way to use cream eye shadows! During application the shadow appear creamy, yet when it’s set it gives a soft, shimmery look that doesn’t fade.

I prefer cream as it’s more forgiving (I don’t have to be so exact). I don’t lke to spend a lot of time applying my shadow and this is quicker and easier for me personally. There are definitely more colors available in powder but….I sacrifice the color for the time :^)

I definitely prefer cream; it stays on longer and doesn’t fade as much;but there are a lot more colors in powder; I tend to use the cream as a base and apply the powder over it; gives it a lot more durability. Both Motives brands.

I’ve never used cream, so I have to say powder.
