Fashion Week Special – Designers to Watch

September 11th // Comment Here

PRABAL GURUNG:
The former design director at Bill Blass says that he creates clothes for “a thinking man’s sex symbol,” and his smart, elegant designs bear this out.

MARIA GRACHVOGEL:
With fans like Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore, Yasmin LeBon and Victoria Beckham, this British designer specializes in gorgeous investment pieces: elegant silk halter dresses and tailored tweed separates embellished with feathers and pleats.

RISTO BIMBILOSKI:
A graduate of Thierry Mugler and Louis Vuitton (where he trained under Marc Jacobs himself), the Paris-based designer uses eco-friendly fibers and dyes, and hires women in his native Macedonia to sew his glamorous confections. This year marks his runway debut.

Fashion Week – This Year's Hottest Shows

September 10th // Comment Here

If you ask fashion insiders which show they’re dying to see above all others, they will invariably leap to their feet and shout “Marc Jacobs!!” But several other, hugely directional designers have normally reserved style watchers scrambling for seats. The best of the bunch:

· Rag & Bone, Friday, Sept 11th
· Alexander Wang: Saturday, Sept 12th
· Tuleh, Sunday, Sept 13th
· Derek Lam, Sunday, Sept 13th
· Zac Posen, Monday, Sept 14th
· Proenza Schouler: Wednesday, Sept 16th
· Doo.Ri: Wednesday, Sept 16th
· Calvin Klein, Thursday, Sept 17th
· Ralph Lauren, Thursday, Sept 17th
· L’Wren Scott, Thursday, Sept 17th

If Wang’s resort show was any indication, his spring show will be especially great. I’m dying for one of his draped and wrapped LBDs:

Tell us: Which designer do you watch?

Jimmy Choo for H&M

September 9th // 2 Comments

Sneak Peek: Jimmy Choo for H&M

Yes. You read that right. H&M has enlisted Jimmy Choo to design the mega-chains first accessories collaboration—and you’re looking at some of the first photos here! Whispering the words “Jimmy Choo sample sale” sends well-heeled women from miles away racing to lineup. And this lower-priced collection is sure to do the same thing. The collection—which includes shoes, bags, and accessories for both men and women—hits over 200 stores worldwide on November 14. So ladies and gentlemen, get there early and be prepared to throw some elbows to get your hands on these limited edition pieces. They’re sure to sell out fast.

Lots of love,
Loren

What Were They Thinking – Spring 2010 Menswear Review

August 11th // 2 Comments

You’ve seen the good, but here’s a little peek at some of the more hilarious fashion moments at this season’s shows. Enjoy!

DSquared – Yo-duh-lay-he-hoo
There is so much wrong here that I’m going to stick to the one, most questionable element: exposed leggings. Will this ever be okay? My inclination is that unless they’re hidden under other pants for added warmth—a la thermal underwear— these are never making it to the mainstream. But what do you think?

Givenchy – Are men really ready for studded gladiator sandals?
The Romans may have considered these hardcore sandals to be unisex, but I’m not sold on the idea. It actually took me a few seasons to start liking them on women. Who knows, maybe the masculine versions will grow on me too. For now, however, I have to say these intensely studded sandals aren’t something I want to see on the street any time soon.

Calvin Klein - Lets see those guns (no, not really)!
There’s no question that Calvin Klein cuts a beautiful suit, and this khaki look is no exception. But, sheer arms? Really?

Fashion Tips – Unbeatable looks from Paul & Joe’s Spring Runway

August 4th // Comment Here

Lately I’ve been wearing a lot of Paul & Joe – I’m a big advocate of this free-spirited Parisian label. The designer, Sophie Albou, trained with the fashion god Azzedine Alaia, named the brand after her two sons, and keeps churning out beautifully made, offbeat pieces for both men and women. Her style is all about beautiful fabrics and easy-yet-tailored shapes – i.e., the kind of things you’ll immediately put in heavy rotation in your wardrobe.

2 unbeatable looks from Paul & Joe’s spring runway:
