Coats for Curvy Girls

November 2nd // 3 Comments

I’m not really a big fan of the cold but it’s pretty much impossible to ignore the huge snowstorm that just hit the Northeast last weekend. I need to stop being in denial and give in and go shopping for a coat! So far there are three really fab and affordable coats for curvy girls and don’t know which to choose! Help? Here are three tips to keep in mind when shopping for coats that flatter a woman’s curves!

  1. Draw attention UP. Faux-fur neck details on this coat from H&M divert eyes from the hips.
  2. Confidence is everything! Rock a bold color and a belt at the waist to show off your hourglass figure with this option from ASOS.
  3. Capes like this fleece one actually look great on everyone, but keep the volume on top and opt for body-conscious bottoms.

Dresses that will hide a tummy

August 15th // 1 Comment

Looking to hide a curvier midsection? Keep these three style-savvy tricks in mind during your next shopping trip!

1. Relaxed draping will be your new best friend and give the most flattering shape 2. incorporate visual details like color-blocking, asymmetrical cuts and two-toned fabrics and 3. stay away from anything that clings too tightly around the tummy or cuts into your skin, creating unsightly lumps and lines.

Here, a few examples:

Oprah Winfrey Looks Fabulous in Victoria Beckham Collection

October 28th // 2 Comments

Former Spice Girl (turned designer) Victoria Beckham really knows how to flatter a curvy figure. Celebs like Jennifer Hudson, America Ferrera and Oprah Winfrey are all fans of her designs because they cinch the waist, draw attention to the decolletage, and streamline the hips with a peplum-style skirt.

Doesn’t Oprah look fabulous at the Maria Shriver Women’s Conference? The color compliments her skin tone beautifully. Nice choice!

What do you think of this Victoria Beckham dress?

Curves Done Right: Christina Hendricks for London Fog

August 25th // 10 Comments

After yesterday’s intense discussion over plus-size model Crystal Renn’s new ads for Chanel and Jean Paul Gaultier, I thought it important to share the new London Fog campaign with you. London Fog really got it right when choosing the size 12 Christina Hendricks as their spokesmodel – she looks amazing and the company does a great job of showing off, not hiding, her curves:

The Mad Men star has been quoted saying:

“London Fog is a classic brand, which I love. It also ties in to Mad Men, we used London Fog in the show and this is a nice way to tie everything together. The trench is such an iconic shape for men and women. It works for anyone — it worked in the 1960s and it works now.”
