Sneak Peek: Topshop’s Spring Collaborations

January 14th // Comment Here

Photos of the next round of collaborations hitting Topshop were just released and everything is dark…very, very dark. I’m usually on board with high-concept designers translating their visions at prices that are affordable to the masses, but this latest installation kind of scares me.

From left to right: Ashish, Ann Sofie Back, And Jonathan Saunders

Ashish: Hits stores February 3rd

The U.K. designer covered soft biker jackets and slouchy sweatpants with dozens of pointed studs. I know studs are in, but these are a little over-the-top. No?

Ann Sofie Back: In stores now.

For her third collaboration with the U.K. chain, Back created six pieces inspired by horror films—Freddy Kruger in particular—that are layered and slashed.

Jonathan Saunders: Hits stores January 20th

In my opinion, this is the most wearable of the three. There’s a body-skimming black sequin dress that’s absolutely stunning.

Lots of love,

Loren

My Heart Goes Out to Those Affected by the Earthquake in Haiti – How You Can Help

January 13th // 3 Comments

When I woke up this morning and saw on the news what had happened in Haiti, my heart just broke. Natural disasters, like this magnitude 7 earthquake, are the hardest to accept since we have no control over it. Fortunately, we do have control over the aftermath, and that is why it’s super important for everyone to reach out and do their part.

Get with your local Red Cross to find out how you can give supplies, clothing and food to those suffering in Haiti. At the moment, the best and fastest way to help is to donate money to the American Red Cross’s International Response Fund.

Here’s how: online at redcross.org, by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS or by mail at American Red Cross P.O. Box 37243 Washington D.C. 20013. You can also donate $10 by texting HAITI to 90999 – this will immediately go to the Red Cross and will be charged to your cell phone bill.

Please retweet this post on Twitter or share it on Facebook to get the word out on how to help.

All my love,

Loren

January 12th // 1 Comment

Handbag sales are crazily good at the moment, so give yourself the gift of a visit to Bluefly, The Outnet and TheSak.com! The latter is offering 30% off its already slashed prices. (I particularly love this leather Juniper bag, a fashion editor favorite that now clocks in at a mere $66.)

Meanwhile, Nine West just announced a 70% off sale. I’m off, then!

Dressing for Curves: Guess What Has A Universally Flattering Effect?

January 12th // Comment Here

How do you get dressed? Hollywood designer Louise Mingenbach puts on some dramatic stilettos and works up from there. And, when in doubt, my fashion editor friend Vanessa always begins with a pencil skirt and black platform heels – a simple dose of glamour that lends structure to any look. It is the perfect combo for curvy figures: highlights waist (check!), showcases hourglass figure (check!) and scooped-front heels to elongate legs (check!).

This classic combo also works brilliantly with just about any top, and pencils skirts come in all kinds of fabrics and colors so you don’t have to be locked into a hard black look. Simply add opaque tights for winter and you’re on your way.

Love,
Loren

The Tools You Need to Get Organized Now!

January 10th // 1 Comment

What can I do to make the simple things simpler? I’ve asked myself that question a million times in the last few weeks and I’ve decided the answer is finding proper storage tools: something to keep my mail from being scattered across the kitchen counter, a place to store my keys that always seem to walk off, a way to tackle my overflowing “junk” drawers, and most importantly, a solution to the ever-expanding tool collection that’s taken over my garage. Here’s what I found:

1. Drawer units in every size imaginable, so I can customize the set up to fit my needs (one box for tape and scissors, another for miscellaneous sewing kits).

The Container Store, Modular Bamboo Drawer Organizers starting at $3.99

2. This smart invention has given me back my garage. It stores all my yard tools with room to spare. Plus, it’s easy to get things out when you need them and, more importantly, put them back when you’re done.

3. This industrial wall cabinet let me kill two birds with one stone. I put it by the kitchen door, so whomever gets the mail that day can slide it right in the top slit. The second I walk in the door, I can hang my keys and sort the mail. Brilliant!
