Women’s Fashion Tips – Wearing Color with Confidence

July 29th // Comment Here

Did I say before how I’m a fan of hot pink? It’s bright, fun and so pretty with a hint of a tan. And after seeing Blake Lively in this dreamy strapless dress (from the Michael Kors fall 2009 collection) at the CFDA awards, I’m doubly sold on the shade. I love how she kept everything else totally simple: rumpled-beachy hair, nude heels, minimal jewelry and makeup.

Okay, so I’m definitely copying this look. Are you with me?

Women’s Fashion Tips – Sequin Pants

July 15th // Comment Here

Sequin pants are the hottest item for summer. Check out this picture of Blake Lively who wore gold sequin pants for a night out with boyfriend Penn Bagley. She did it just right. The main tip when wearing sequin pants is pairing them with a solid color top. Pair it with a top that is not flashy or embellished, a silk top, or tee shirt will make the outfit look cool and modern.

A longer silhouette like a blazer or a long button down top will be most flattering if you want to cover your derriere.

Keep it simple, high heel strappy sandals or plain nude or black pumps will work perfect to compliment your look.

Women’s Beauty Tips – The Twisted Facts About Braids

July 9th // Comment Here

As much as we all love the arrival of warm weather, I for one do not look forward to the frizzy, unmanageable hair days that inevitably come along with it. The easiest—and cutest—remedy I’ve found for unruly summer hair are braids. They have that fresh-off-the-beach appeal. But they’re trickier than they first appear, and not all techniques are flattering for everyone. Here, a helpful breakdown on picking the right braids for you (with a little modeling help from some celebrities who wore them best).

A Coiffed Jessica Alba:

This face-framing look works best on someone with strong-but-small, pronounced features and an oval face shape. Notice that the small French braid mimics the exact angle of Jessica’s jaw line creating a beautiful sense of balance and bringing the eye directly to the intricate bun at the nape of her neck. Be sure to avoid tight braids, which—besides being deeply uncomfortable—will pull your scalp in a very noticeable way.

Emmy Rossum’s Side Pony:

Braids are tricky for someone with a deep-set hairline. Starting them too close to your face will only draw attention to that fact. So instead, leave the hair closest to your forehead free, and gather the hair on top of your head to create a large, loose French braid that will go across your scalp. The look is supposed to be a bit messy, so don’t worry about it looking perfect.

Blake Lively’s Peek-a-Boo Braids:

This is the best trick in the book, and, as an added bonus, is universally flattering. Say you want to leave your hair down for a perfectly tousled effect, but there are a few frizzy, fly-aways that just won’t stay put. Braid them! Start about an inch away from your scalp, and do a tight braid all the way down. You can even use the braid to hold other hair in place.

Mary Kate Olsen’s Milkmaid:

A round face and lots of hair are necessary to pull off this tricky style. You really want the braid to be loose and messy here. Anything too perfect is going to feel costume-y. Once you’ve adhered the braid to the top of your head, make sure to tousle the surrounding pieces a bit. Otherwise it will look out of place. And definitely leave a few face-framing fly-aways.

Lots of love,
Loren

Fashion Tips – Undergarments Under Wraps!

February 24th // 1 Comment

In case you missed the hits and misses on the red carpet at the Oscars, here’s a little hint, a number of stars use Spanx to help create that perfect figure! Are you wanting to highlight your curves and show off your figure, but avoid showing off those panty lines — just like the stars do? Here’s a tip on using Spanx to accomplish this daunting task!

Knits can be very forgiving, but a knit dress like the one Blake Lively is wearing in this picture if worn with the wrong undergarments can be very unforgiving. A form fitting knit dress can show off underwear lines, rolls and any little imperfection. So make sure you choose seamless panties, a seamless nude bra that fits you right and if you want to avoid all lines, minimize your tummy and create a sleeker figure by choosing a slip that holds you in and flatters your body. Sure, you can hit the gym, but in order to get a quick solution, check out these great solutions!

Serena Van Der Woodsen’s look is “boho-cool”–lots of layers and boots, flowy hair and accessories. Here’s what you’ll need to score a typical Serena look:

1. A great vest layered over a fitted tank top. I particularly like this Silence & Noise Velvet Vest for $30 from Urban Outfitters.
BDG Fitted tank $16 at Urban Outfitters

2. Skinny Jeans for layering over flat, knee-high boots.

Yuki Skinny Jeans $34 at Charlotte Russe
Gabriella Rocha boots $85 at Zappos.com

3. A bohemian “it” bag. Serena is known for her designer handbag fetish. Love your wallet in a less-expensive, equally- as- charming bag like this one from Urban Outfitters.

Fringe, Cross-body bag $58

Top off your look with loose, wavy hair and some pretty, dangling accessories.
Asymmetrical Free Bird necklace $18 and

Feather earrings $20 – Both available at Urban Outfitters.
