Katie Holmes’ Allure Magazine Cover for April 2013

March 19th // 2 Comments

Katie Holmes has had somewhat of a quiet year so far, so it’s nice to see such a stunning cover from her for Allure! The actress donned swimwear for the magazine’s April 2013 issue, sexy bed-head hair and contoured makeup to bring out those already sculpted cheekbones. Check out a few excerpts from her interview below, where Katie talks being the face of Bobbi Brown’s new campaign, having more kids and her hopes for the future.

On being the first face of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics: “I’ve been a fan of her makeup for so many years, because I just feel comfortable putting it on and I don’t feel like I can screw it up.”

On a possible career change: “Well, my brother and father are attorneys, and – we’ll see. I like the practical thinking of attorneys.”

On her hope for the future: “I hope this is a peaceful year for a lot of people in the world. When you look back on the last year, there were a lot of tragedies—Hurricane Sandy, the Connecticut shooting. I…I just hope it’s a good year for everyone. A lot of people have gone through a lot of stuff.”

The issue hits newsstands March 26th!

Nicki Minaj’s Nude Makeup for Elle Magazine Makeover

March 15th // 1 Comment

Hip hop queen Nicki Minaj is sporting a seriously dramatic makeunder for the cover of Elle’s April 2013 issue. The superstar and new American Idol judge recently got rid of her stylist and I love what we’re seeing so far! Instead of her usual over-the-top bold prints, heavy makeup and crazy wigs, we get a sneak peek at Nicki’s true beauty in the magazine. Doesn’t she look gorgeous? Find out how Nicki felt about the makeover below.

On her more natural look for the cover: When I saw myself with barely any makeup at, it was such a… like, I’m so, so attached to my pink lipstick, it’s hard. I feel that it’s become a part of me. To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol’ crazy lashes— you know, nothing— I felt naked. It was scary! So this photo shoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes.

On how to gain respect: My advice to women in general: Even if you’re doing a nine-to-five job, treat yourself like a boss. Not arrogant, but be sure of what you want— and don’t allow people to run anything for you without your knowledge. You want everyone to know, Okay, I can’t play games with her. I have to do right by this woman. That’s what it’s all about.

Which look do you like best on Nicki Minaj? I hope she wears more looks like her Elle cover in the future!

FLOTUS Michelle Obama’s Vogue Cover for April 2013 Revealed!

March 14th // 7 Comments

Michelle Obama looks just as beautiful for her second Vogue cover as she did for her debut in 2009, however this time she paired a sleeveless Reed Krakoff dress with her now-iconic bangs. Annie Leibovitz shot the President and First Lady for a spread in the magazine’s April issue and said during the shoot, “You’re a very different kind of president and First Lady.” To see what the famed-photographer really meant, check out a few down-to-earth soundbites from FLOTUS on everything from fashion to family below (click here to read the interview in its entirety)!

FLOTUS Michelle Obama’s Vogue Cover Revealed

On fashion: “I always say that women should wear whatever makes them feel good about themselves. That’s what I always try to do. . . . I also believe that if you’re comfortable in your clothes it’s easy to connect with people and make them feel comfortable as well. In every interaction that I have with people, I always want to show them my most authentic self.”

On priorities: ”Our job is, first and foremost, to make sure our family is whole. You know, we have small kids; they’re growing every day. But I think we were both pretty straightforward when we said, ‘Our No. 1 priority is making sure that our family is whole.’”

On what she has learned from her husband: “Well, patience and calm I’m borrowing. Or trying to mirror. I’ve learned that from my husband, that sort of, you know, ability to not get too high or too low with changes and bumps in the road. To do more breathing in and just going with it. I’m learning that every day.”

On unexpected life changes: “And to the extent that I’ve made changes in my life, it’s just sort of stepping back and seeing a change not as something to guard against but as a wonderful addition. . . that can make life fun and unexpected.”

Trouble Shopping? Take Lauren Conrad’s Wardrobe Advice

March 7th // 1 Comment

Lauren Conrad has transformed herself from high school reality star to designer, author and trusted resource for women everywhere. Her style is simple yet chic and easy for us to identify with (she has two lines, LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s and Paper Crown), which is why I wanted to share a few excerpts from her new interview with Redbook. Read below for her advice on building a wardrobe, dressing for your shape and more!

Trouble Shopping? Take Lauren Conrad’s Wardrobe Advice

On building a wardrobe: “Whenever someone comes up to me and says, ‘I’m having trouble shopping,’ I tell them to pull out their 10 favorite, most-worn pieces and figure out what you gravitate toward, what makes you feel good. Build a wardrobe around [those 10 favorite pieces].”

On getting ready: “When you’re growing up, you play dress-up — it’s a game, it’s a pastime. And then as you get older, getting ready and looking nice becomes this constant stress. I want to make it fun again.”

On dressing for your body shape: “At first, I was just designing for myself. Then I started getting comments from women who didn’t have my body type, saying things like, ‘I have a larger chest and can’t wear this tent-shaped dress.’ So I’ve learned to make pieces that don’t necessarily flatter me but look great on someone else.”

Great advice! For more of Lauren Conrad’s style tips and tricks, pick up Redbook‘s April 2013 issue on stands March 12th!

Revealed: Beautiful Martha Stewart Modeling Photos

March 4th // 1 Comment

I am not sure why Martha Stewart’s modeling career isn’t more well known! The 71-year-old business mogul recently shared the details of her part-time job in a PBS documentary called MAKERS: Women Who Make America, where she revealed, “I got enough modeling jobs at $50/hour, which was a lot of money at that time.”

The former 60′s model, whose jobs included the likes of Chanel, released a number of the photos online and I wanted to post some of my favorites. The self-made billionaire proves that beauty and brains are something to be celebrated!
