Hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was relaxing, how about your’s? Wanted to share a sneak peek from an upcoming issue of Miami Magazine that came across my desk just a few minutes ago. Below are screenshots from the latest issue — with a great article on Motives by Loren Ridinger cosmetics. The magazine also has a great write-up on the soon-to-be released Motives Ageless Renewal Foundation and how it compares to similar foundations. This new and exciting product is like having skincare within your foundation!
Enjoy!

When you change your hair color (a la the newly-brunettes Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie) do you change your makeup, too? I find that it’s a terrific opportunity to experiment with lip, cheek and eye-shadow colors. (Your foundation, which needs to match your skin tone, should always stay a constant!!) Anyway, here’s my rule of thumb, which I learned from a makeup artist-friend: If you’re taking your hair in a brighter direction – strawberry blonde, coppery red or rich chestnut – a shift to softer, neutral shades on your eyes and lips can look amazing. (I love our bestselling Motives Lip Shine in Candlelight, $10.50.) Alternately, if you’re going blonder or darker, you can get away with bolder, more dramatic hues: red lips or a lush smoky eye.

I always take my hair a little darker in the winter. Am I wrong for feeling like, even in Miami, we should have a change of seasons, too?

Think about it: If you star in a hit drama set during the 1960s, the last thing you want to look like in real life is retro. Herein lies the dilemma of “Mad Men” actress January Jones, who makes it her business to wear modern-looking makeup in different, daring ways. For the Golden Globes, she opted for stunning matte-red lips, a clean eye and major lashes.

Deceptively, the real trick to this look is getting the skin just right. You’ll want to use a light foundation like Motives Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation and — this is key — apply it with a brush only where needed. If you have great skin and want even sheerer coverage, wet the brush before you use it.
