Men’s Fashion Tips – Man Jewelry

April 29th // 4 Comments

How are we feeling about men and jewelry? The only thing I find universally acceptable are watches, a ring passed down from a grandfather or a thin silver or gold band, and anything leather and surfer-y. Other than that, no way. And I mean, really no way.

And yet: I take it all back, sort of, in the case of Mickey Rourke: Dog charms! Non-functional belt chains! Sherlock Holmes pocket-watch fobs! Random leather knots! He looks fantastic and it kills me to say it, but all that bling makes his look.

So what kind of jewelry do you like on guys? Guys, what kind of jewelry do you like to wear? Can we chat about this?

Much love,
Loren

Looks for Less – Mickey Rourke

March 4th // Comment Here

Even though you might not be able to pull off his moves in the ring as Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson in his movie, The Wrestler, you can still get Mickey Rourke’s celebrity look for less even on a budget!

With his mix-and-match style, with a touch of various grays, blacks and white (and some tint to go with his shades), I’ve got to admit, Mickey’s got style!

To get his look for less, without pulling a ‘ram jam’ on any stylist in the vicinity, get the scoop on how you can get his celebrity looks after the jump!

For starters, you can pick-up a a Joker make-up kit to get Mickey’s unkempt hair for $10.
Joker Makeup Kit

Over on eBay, I managed to find Oakley’s classic Frogskin sunglasses (which come in a variety of colored frames and lense tints) for around $35.

Micro Twill Blazer from Urban Outfitters
Micro Twill Blazer available at Urban Outfitters for $50

Fleur de Lis belt from Urban Outfitters for $28

O.H.H.A. Men’s white stripe dress shirt for $24 at Overstock.com

Piattelli White Black Silk Tuxedo Scarf, which can be found at Decalo Fashion or even on eBay for $35 (retails for $85).

Pick-up a pair on non-seasonal sharkskin pants by Domani for $30 at Overstock.com

Lastly, slip on of Calvin Klein Elkan’s available from Piperlime for a cool $83 on sale!

So while you may not have Rourke’s bank or even his sex appeal. You can skip the wrestler unitard and get his hot look for just under $300 (skipping the hair can save $10). And there you have it, Mickey Rourke’s celebrity look…for less!

Love,
Loren

Trends and News – To Shave or Not To Shave

January 23rd // 4 Comments
Today’s post is due, in part, to an e-mail that I received from a MyFashionCents.comreader. She wanted to know how to get her husband to trim his ‘stache,’ so that he didn’t look so goofy wearing it. One thing is for certain, wearing a mustache takes a talented individual, one that isn’t afraid to try out a little facial hair every now and then.

At the 66th annual Golden Globes, there was a surprising trend that nearly every attendee seemed to be sporting — the mustache. From Sting to Darren Aronofsky (Director of The Wrestler), even Mickey Rourke, everyone seemed to be sporting some form of facial hair.Based on these variations, I wanted to share with you a few tips on selecting the right ‘stache’ to fit your facial type. That way you won’t be relegated to jokes about that ‘dirt’ on your upper-lip. Instead, you’ll bask in the limelight, like many of today’s celebrities!

Read a ‘stache of tips’ on wearing facial hair after the jump.

Mustache Styles

  • Handlebar mustache: great for thin faces or someone with small facial features. Also seen on bikers. To make it look right, make sure to shave on the chin and in the lower cheek region. Finish off with a little clubman mustache wax!

  • Fu Manchu: Great for rounder faces. This is a thin mustache and is pretty easy to grow. Simply start a mustache and add two bars on either side of the mouth. It may require some training to grow straight. With a little luck, you’ll be sporting this look in no time!

  • Horseshoe: give off a rough and tough appearance. Often confused with the Fu Manchu, you might want to steer clear of this upside down look, as it is supposed to be bad luck.

The key point to achieving any of these mustache styles is to keep them well groomed. This is important to remember, because like a person in need of a haircut, the mustache can grow out of control if not trimmed and maintained.

Ladies, what do you think about a man with some facial hair? Love it or lost it?

Lots of love,
Loren

Trends and News – Mermaid Style at the 2009 Golden Globes

January 12th // Comment Here

Last nights 2009 Golden Globes were nothing short of spectacular. While Mickey Rourke capped the night off with a career comeback in the ring for his role in The Wrestler, it was Kate Winslet who stole the show, winning the award for best actress in a drama for her role in Revolutionary Road. Winslet also went on to win the award for best supporting actress in a drama for The Reader as well. Out on the red carpet, we saw a fish out of water, with the mermaid dress, which was worn by a host of celebrities.

If you aren’t familiar with the mermaid dress. The mermaid dress is close fitting through the bodice, down through the hips and to about the mid or lower calve, where the skirt then flares out. This is a sexy body hugging style at its finest.

Stars like Eva Longoria, Drew Barrymore and the gorgeous Kate Beckinsale chose this style to show off their toned physique.
