Here is a photo of Liv Tyler spending some mother-son time over the weekend in NYC. I normally love her outfits, however this one in particular was not on the same level of chic. The denim dress has a very unflattering cut – and mixed with various other prints and textures the whole ensemble is just… too busy.

Solid-color dresses ruled at the Academy Awards – just look at Twilight stars Anna Kendrick and Kristen Stewart. I lean towards one color gowns myself, but I couldn’t take my eyes off of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s strapless, Impressionist-print sheath by Dries Van Noten. Just the fact that she wore a print set her apart, and now I feel inspired to step out of the box with my clothing choices next time I go to an event!
