This year it’s all about a statement piece of jewelry that will update your outfit, or will make you stand out in a crowd. This trend has been covered by magazines, and worn by celebrities, and we have also talked about it before on our blog, but there is a designer his name is Erickson Beamon, who for years has been the go to top choice for costume jewelry for magazine and celebrities alike. Prices for his pieces can range up to thousands of dollars. But now he is the most recent jewelry designer doing a collection for Target. Check out his collection and treat yourself to one of these candy colored or rock and roll black and white pieces at amazing prices.

This post comes via one of my loyal Fashion Cents readers who is seeking comfortable but fabulous shoes. Thanks, Deborah ;)! You wouldn’t know it by looking at me, but I happen to love the look of fashionable flats just as much as I love heels, (I swear; it’s true!) especially when paired with cropped pants, rolled boyfriend jeans, or a great pair of skinny jeans. Here are some of my personal tips and picks that will have you looking totally fabulous and feeling comfortable all day!

1. Animal Print – Everyone needs a great animal print shoe. Opt for a snakeskin print–You’ll find yourself pairing it with everything, and it will be huge in 2009!

Dolce Vita “Sally” Snakeskin shoe – $96.90 at The Hip Chick

2. Texture, Texture, Texture – You can actually get away with a lot more when wearing flats, because they are so low-profile. Don’t be afraid to experiment with textures you’d otherwise never try.

Lace skimmer – $19.99 at Urban Outfitters

3. Color – Shoes are always a great way to add a pop of color to an outfit. Go crazy with your flats ;)

Red patent slingbacks – $24.99 at Target

Selena ruffled mary-janes – $13.99 at Target

4. Embellishment – Need I say more?!

This Spring, geometric prints were seen all over the runways. Designers like Dries Van Noten, Marni, and Philip Lim, all showed their interpretations of this trend. With black and white diamond patterns, colorful circle pattern skirts, and perfectly matching different patterns to create full looks, it all looked stunning on the runway. But how can you wear this look to work? Choose one piece that has a geometric pattern and pair it with a neutral color. Here are some options of work appropriate pieces at great prices.

New year, new you! Give your work wardrobe a fresh start this year. Whether you are getting ready for a job interview or you just want to add some new pieces to your wardrobe, it is essential to start off on the right foot.

Start with the basic pieces, a new suit that fits you well and flatters your figure is a great start. Wearing printed blouses or bold colorful tops under your jacket will make it look fresh and on trend.

You can also wear the pieces separately. The blazer can be worn with dark wash denim trousers and a crisp button down for a casual but still work appropriate look.
The pants or pencil skirt from your suit can be worn with a delicate feminine blouse and a long cardigan for a soft lady like look.

Here’s more great Golden Globes fashion! If you watched the spectacular award show last night, you may have noticed that the top choice for color was white or off-white. From white, embellished gowns like the ones Angelina Jolie and Beyonce wore, to the curve-flaunting, halter style Salma Hayek wore; white ruled the red carpet this year. Eva Mendes even combined the ultra-hot Mermaid sillhouette with the color of the night!

White can be a hard color to pull off, but by the look of all these beautiful actresses, white can be a very flattering color!!! And I really think that if you find the right style for your body type, it can really flatter your figure. Here are a couple of options of great white dresses to get you ready for your next party–all at affordable prices–after the jump.

Doing any job is much easier when you have the necessary tools. This same tips applies to plucking your eyebrows or even detailing that mustache, guys! By purchasing a quality set of tweezers, it makes the job much easier and the results much better. As far as tweezers go, I would recommend the Tweezerman tweezers. They are durable and extremely comfortable in the hand. Not to mention, “the beauty tool of choice” by makeup artists, celebrities and models throughout the world.

You’re probably thinking they sound expensive…luckily, Target carries both pairs priced at $20 for the Tweezerman slanted tweezers and $10 respectively for a pair of lighted tweezers with magnifier — to help you shed a little light on the subject.

Learn how to tweeze your eyebrows the right way after the jump.

With tweezers in-hand, here’s a great way to help frame your face…the right way!

First, you need two pairs (a pointed tip for drawing and a slanted tip for cleaning). First, make sure you pluck your eyebrows or other areas during the daytime. Trying to get that exact hair takes patience and time. To make things a bit easier, I also suggest using a smaller mirror — next to a window, so that you get the most light possible.

Secondly, grab the slant tweezers and start from the inner eye (do not pluck these though, because they are the beginning of your eyebrow) and run along the bottom of the brow. To best determine the shape of your eyebrow, follow the shape of your cheekbone.

Once you have finished the bottom, follow the same line you started with and continue upwards, making a natural curve. This is where you should switch to the pointed tip tweezers. Remember to pluck one hair at a time too.

As you pluck, remember this takes. Moving towards the outer part of the eye, grab the note that you should never tweeze the top of your brows.

If this is your first time tweezing, use a pencil to to shade in the missing or overplucked areas.

Have you got a tweezing tip that you’d like to share? Feel free to leave one in the comments section!

Much love,
Loren

Happy New Year! I’m sure you’ve all been very busy strategizing your game plans for those New Year’s Resolutions (as have I). Whether it’s excercising more, spending more time with your family,or trying to live more fashion “centsibly”; now is the perfect opportunity to start fresh and make it happen! One way to bring balance to your life is to ensure your surroundings are in order. The act of organizing to achieve balance dates back to ancient times. Take the Chinese practice of Feng Shui for example. Feng shui is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to utilize the Laws of both heaven (astronomy) and earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive “Qi” (energy flow). Modern interpretations of the ancient practice, claim that feng shui is the practice of arranging objects (such as furniture) to help people achieve their goals. I think the Chinese are definetely onto something with Feng Shui. For me, organization is very important as well. If my environment is in order, everything else will fall into place. For someone who lives and breathes fashion, having an organized, harmonious closet is a must! Check out some of my closet organization tips here.

Closet organization should ultimately solve that neverending problem of “lost” items in your closet, and it will also help you preserve the clothing you spend your hard-earned dollars on.

Clothing

* Begin by separating your items into seasons. Next, separate your season piles into items (i.e. pants, skirts, tops, accessories). Finally, separate your item piles into colors.

* I like to hang what’s in season in the closet for easy access. Anything out-of-season should be boxed away in storage. I shop at stores like Target for easy-stacking canvas storage boxes with windows and garment bags for hanging storage. Note: Always make sure your garments are clean before storing them away! You wouldn’t want those pesky moths going to town on your precious clothing.

Rubbermaid Configurations Low-Profile Box $13.49
Whitney Design Dress protector $11.99

*Hangers are also an important element for the preservation of clothing. Use shaped, wooden hangers for your jackets and coats to maintain the shape of their shoulder lines. Use heavy plastic hangers for your shirts and suit hangers for your pants and skirts. Use soft, padded hangers for your delicate silk blouses and dresses.

* Jersey knit dresses, long, delicate dresses, vintage pieces, and anything with heavy beadwork should be folded and boxed to retain their shape and to protect them from dust. Recycle your leftover christmas boxes or boxes from stores and label them on the outer corner of the box. Stack them on your closet shelf, or in mildew-resistant storage boxes if they’re out of season.

* Always fold and stack your sweaters in wire baskets on your closet shelf. Tissue weight knits that are easily damaged should be stored in individual sweater bags.

* An easy way to organize your hosiery and intimates is to purchase some inexpensive drawer dividers. Sheer hosiery can be protected by grouping into freezer-sized Ziploc bags. Bras, and silky delicates should be stored in a seperate lined drawer.

Accessories

*Organize your shoes one of two ways (depending on the amount of closet space you have available.) If you’d like to keep the floor clear, store your heavy rotation shoes in a canvas shoe file. All other shoes can be stored in clear plastic stacking boxes for easy viewing. Tall boots should be grouped together with plastic boot-shaping inserts to help retain their shape. Otherwise, invest in a quality, cedar shoe rack to display your prized collection.

*Handbags should be stored in their original dust bags or in a clear handbag file for protection.Whitmor handbag file $8.49 at Target.com

*Scarves, shawls, soft cold-weather hats, and gloves should have their own plastic storage box as well.

I prefer storing things this way because everything stays stain-free, dust-free, scratch-free and within easy reach–no worries! I’d love to hear your organization tips too!

Love,
Loren
