One of the most important tips for figure flattery is how you use proportion and how you apply it to your body type. Skinny pants should most likely be worn with a looser top, and a bigger top should be worn with a skinny bottom. Check out this picture of Victoria Beckham wearing ultra skinny black leather pants and a faux fur jacket. She is petite, and this look works because it makes her appear taller and flatters her figure; the skinny pants elongate her legs and the jacket is cropped and hits her at the waist, the jacket adds volume around her shoulders but the proportions of the rest of her outfit still make her look lean and appear taller.
Check out some similar options after the jump, and play with proportions and flatter your figure at great prices!

Choose skin tone or nude shoes to create the illusion of longer legs. Instead of wearing an ankle strap sandal that will cut you off at the ankle, wear shoes that match your skin tone so your legs will appear longer. Petite celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Rachel Bilson and Victoria Bekham have worn nude shoes to their red carpet events. Pair your nude high heel sandals or pumps, with a little black dress or try them with bright colored dresses, like red, turquoise, yellow. Check out these chic options for great prices.

For the past 2 years, denim was all about clean washes–no embellishments. Now, the big trend in the denim market is distressed boyfriend jeans. Celebrities like Katie Holmes, Victoria Beckham, Reese Witherspoon, and Lindsay Lohan…just to name a few, have been rocking this trend. From Premiun denim brands like the newly launched Current/ Elliot to mass brands like Bongo and Levis are all showing their take on this trend. So if you are one to follow trends, make sure you choose your pair wisely. Go for a style that flatters your body. Baggy jeans can add bulk and make you look frumpy and heavy. Go for styles that are not too oversized, add heels, and a fitted top to balance out your proportions.
Ron Herman has a great selection of premium distressed jeans, but my favorite pair has to be Levis 501 boyfriend jeans available for $78.

Levi Boyfriend Cut Jeans. Available for $78 at Levi.com.
Fashion Cents readers, rejoice! Target has just announced a brand new initiative which will bring the designs of top, established fashion designers to the price-conscious, mass market. The new program is called Designer Collaborations, and it is set to debut in March 2009.
I am so super-excited about this because the first designer who has jumped on board with the new program is none other than a VERY well-respected, designer-to-the-stars: the one-and-only, Alexander McQueen!
McQueen was chief designer for Givenchy and served as creative director at Gucci before branching out on his own. He is known for his outrageous catwalk designs, and has developed a loyal fan-following among the likes of Gwenyth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Sarah-Jessica famously wore this green dress, designed by Alexander McQueen, to the Sex and The City movie premiere back in May.
While full details of the Target line are yet to come, they have revealed that the line will feature items with the designer’s signature rock ‘n’ roll edge, including tattoo-print fabrics and studs.
I love the fact that Target has become a real destination for the fashion centsible. I’m still in love with their ‘Go International’ concept/collections, and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us!
Lots of Love,
Loren

Victoria Beckham is definetely a trendsetter–from her trademark asymmetrical bob haircut, to her fabulous handbag collection–it’s no wonder she has continued to evolve into a modern-day style icon. Victoria’s “posh” look is also heavily influenced by many classic styles including oversized sunglasses, mod prints, black and white, and clean lines. Victoria was spotted looking extra-stylish earlier this week, in her Audrey Hepburn-esque attire, as she arrived at Los Angeles International Airport.

Victoria’s clean, tailored look can work in a variety of occasions, and resourceful shoppers will find that you don’t have to have Posh’s bankroll to look this chic–in fact, a major part of the thrill of finding the same looks for less, involves the endless amount of options that are available out there (especially through our dozens of MarketAmerica.com partner stores). With so many endless possibilities, you can really put your own spin on a look you love, for much less!
Here are a few pieces I found to help you snag Victoria’s style:
1. A perfect-length, quality skirt is the key piece to obtaining this look. If you’re going to splurge anywhere, do it here. A skirt like the Black Halo one I found at TheHipChick.com, is an “investment piece” that will last you season after season.
Black Halo Skirt: $218
2. Victoria’s look consists of a boatneck sweater layered over a white collared-shirt. I’ve chosen a black sweater from Kohl’s, and a basic white shirt from Gap.
Gap shirt: $30
Apt. 9 button-neck sweater: $23
I especially like the shirred detailing on this sweater. It creates an ideal balance of femenine and masculine when paired with the white shirt (buttoned to the neck).
3. You’ll also need bold, black accessories to complete this look.

Kate Spade sunglasses: $160 at Nordstrom.com
MIA Diva round toe pump: $69.95 available at endless.com
Perlina satchel: $132 at endless.com
The key to creating Victoria’s look, is to keep it simple! Look for pieces with clean lines and minimal embellishment, but don’t be afraid to make the look your own by experimenting with slightly different silhouettes, and fabrics. Get creative with it!
Lots of Love,
Loren
